Bloggers Challenge 2014 Topic #4 High Street Or High End
This challenge is the 4th in the series and it is about which do I think is better High Street Beauty items or High End Beauty items. This is such a tough one to do but hopefully you will enjoy this post.
A few years ago the High Street Shops, i.e Boots, Superdrug, Body Care, etc etc their make up really was lacklustre and poor in quality. The prices were cheap, granted but so was the packaging, it was plastic, broke easily and just did not protect the products inside and so the make up was always tending to go off before it should have done. All the ranges seemed to do the same colours and their was just not the variety of products that you could get in the High End shops.
The High end stores, like your House Of Frasers, Mac, Selfridges would always have more variety and Bigger names, but then the prices were extortionate and half of the time you could only dream about owning the latest eye shadow quad or blusher. But then just the experience of shopping in the more "exclusive" stores made you feel special and as if you were the most important customer in the entire store, made up for the outrageous pricing. The bigger brands always seemed to be advancing with their products and experimenting for example, with new different styles of mascara wands, or new different textures of nail polishes, whereas the high street shops seemed to always be stuck in the same old rut.
I have worked in a High Street store now for 14 years and I have seen the brands really up their game and have been coming up with great new things, like the Maybelline Colour Tattoos, for example, those are some of the best eye bases there are or Collection with their superb concealer that is quite comparable to the Nars concealer, but about £20-£25 cheaper. The lower priced brands are really pushing hard to keep up with the likes of the Urban Decays, and Mac's and they are coming up with great eye shadow palettes like the MUA Undressed palette which is said to be like the coveted Urban Decay Naked palette. Barry M' s nail polishes are lovely in quality and only cost £2.99 and £3.99.
Don't get me wrong I do love the High End stuff too, Tom Ford anyone?? I only own one of his lipsticks but boy, that lipstick is lovely. Benefit do amazing products too, their blushes and bronzers are some of my favourites, and I don't mind paying the little extra because you know that the quality of the overall product is going to be there.
But I will say that my answer for the which is better High Street or High End is ...... (DRUM ROLL PLEASE)..............
For me, the Boots and Superdrugs, and even some of the supermarkets now are coming out with incredible products and they are great prices. So if you hunt around you can more or less find dupes of expensive products in the stands and racks of the High Street.
I really hope you enjoyed this post and let me know what you think is better, High Street or High End Make up.
